I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. The framework informs my practice and provides us both with guidelines for safe and effective best practice. I work within a person-centred modality – basically, this means that the client and counsellor work in a collaborative way. You are the expert on you, and set your own goals and pace of our sessions. As we establish a therapeutic relationship, my role is to help you focus and reflect on the issues you bring in – not to tell you what to do! Sometimes, when we are feeling overwhelmed, we can lose perspective and develop “blind spots” in our perception. Counselling can help you get a full 360 degree view, which can enable you to see options that may not have been visible to you before.
A session lasts 50 minutes and generally takes place weekly to begin with – you may wish to attend more frequently at the beginning of counselling and, further along in the counselling process, you may wish to attend fortnightly or monthly. At our first session, we will establish a counselling contract, discussing confidentiality, meeting times, and what you would like to get out of our sessions. This contract is reviewed regularly throughout the counselling process. Then you’ll have the opportunity to talk about what’s going on for you. The counselling environment provides a neutral and safe environment for you to express your innermost feelings – sometimes you may get emotional, and sometimes you may find it challenging to bring those feelings out. We will work with those feelings together.
A 50 minute session costs £50 for individuals and £70 for couples. Payments may be made in advance of each session by cash or bank transfer. Concessions are available for counselling students.
Regretfully, cancellations notified more than 48 hours in advance of the session incur the cost of the room booking. Last-minute cancellations or no-shows incur the full cost of the session.
This depends on what you wish to achieve, so the number of sessions we have is up to you. Many clients find that between 6 and 18 sessions are sufficient for their needs.
The sessions take place at Vision Co-Working Spaces in Saxon House, 27 Duke Street, Chelmsford CM1 1HT.  Saxon House is located adjacent to Chelmsford's train and bus stations, with parking available nearby. Daytime, evening and weekend sessions are available.
